Explore Charlotte's History with KnowCLT App
KnowCLT is a free educational app designed for Android users, offering an immersive exploration of Charlotte's rich history, particularly focusing on the Brooklyn neighborhood. This GPS-based application allows users to experience the vibrant past of Brooklyn, once the largest Black community in the Carolinas, through a combination of narration, photos, and poetry.
The app enables users to engage with historical sites either by walking through the Second Ward or from the comfort of their homes. Users can explore seven significant locations enhanced with augmented reality features, bringing the history to life. Notable highlights include the site of the first public library for Black Charlotteans, where users can visualize the Brevard Street Library.
